Through My Window is the best Spanish romance trilogy that we have ever seen to this day.
Produced and made in Spain, the first Through My Window film, was released on February 4, 2022, on Netflix. After an intriguing first film, starring both Julio Peña as the main character Ares and Clara Galle playing the main female role, Raquel, it was bound to become a series.
The long-awaited sequel, Through My Window: Across the Sea, was officially released on June 23, 2023, with the third and final movie set to be released on February 23, 2024, titled Through My Window 3: Looking at You.
The Hidalgos are Raquel’s next-door neighbors and are extremely wealthy. After multiple weeks of stolen WiFi passwords and hacks, Raquel decided to confront the Hidalgo’s family’s son, Ares. She nagged him to stop using her WiFi, wondering why he needed it with his family’s wealth backing him up.
Days went by with no luck. Raquel had no power to stop Ares’ efforts to bother her. One night, they let their emotions get the best of them, which started the snowball of love-spells, and heartbreak.
While the movie is full of lust, which slowly turns into love, it presents heartbreak and anger, more throughout the majority of the movie.
Unlike many romances, Ares doesn’t fluently express affection in the new relationship. Ares is a strong and edgy character who finds anger in everything. Due to his father’s influence, his idea of love is pessimistic. Raquel manages to love him through all of his struggles and conflicts.
This is one of the many things that make this movie so great. Through the many struggles in their relationship, they find ways to come back to each other. No relationship is like a Disney movie. Through My Window is an accurate depiction of the ups and downs of trying to love someone even when it might seem impossible at times.
Near the end, Yoshi, Raquel’s boy best friend, is furious with Ares’ actions, thinking that Ares is not treating Raquel right. They argue, leading Yoshi to push him into the school pool. Pouring chlorine into the pool as he turns away causes Ares to have an allergic reaction. Raquel finds Ares in the water just in time and brings him to a hospital, where he recovers from the scare.
This incident was one of the most heart-racing scenes in the entire movie. Both of us were on the edge of our seats, as one of the best characters was dying. After an intense scare, Ares survived the accident, free from side effects.
This incident caused Ares to decide to study medicine in Stockholm, making him leave Raquel behind. Before he leaves, he reveals to Raquel that he purposely broke the WiFi so he could have an excuse to talk to her. All along, she wasn’t the annoying person he said she was. He just wanted a chance.
The next two movies show the difficulties of living separate lives in separate cities. Like any great romance, their love brings them together again, and they overcome the challenges they had to face.
The ending is incredibly intense and heart-racing. Although there are many cringe-worthy scenes, this movie is amazing. It made us feel a sense of hope and despair, love and hate, and so much more in every single scene. Its ups and downs show the way life is, depicting accurate relationships facing real problems.
We liked this movie so much because there were so many jokes we made about some of the scenes, and it was so heart-throbbing multiple times throughout the movie. Overall, we rate it an 11/10 and would love to find more movies just like this.
