Every single year, Spotify users begin their year off by listening to music that they’ll be reminded of at the end of the year. Spotify Wrapped, released in 2016, is a marketing strategy that Spotify uses to attract more users to use their platform. Spotify Wrapped is easily accessible; the app is free in the App Store and Google Play, as well as the ability to stream music.
For me, I look forward to seeing my Spotify Wrapped every year. I’ve been an avid Spotify user since 2019 and have seen my taste in music change as I’ve gotten older. I love being able to have a reminder of my favorite songs, how much I played them, and when I listened the most.
By no surprise, my top artist this year was Taylor Swift. She’s been my top artist for the last two years now and I am confident that I do listen to her the most. I love how she has an album for quite literally all of my feelings—whether I’m heartbroken, angry, going on a drive with friends, or any other occasion I can think of, there is, without a doubt, a Taylor Swift song that fits my mood.
Jack Harlow was a close runner-up, leading the race of my top listened-to songs of 2023, holding a confident three places out of my top five. “They Don’t Love It,”off of Jack’s newest album, held strong as my number one most listened-to song, followed by some of his older tracks. This is so predictable. I would have his whole discography on my Spotify Wrapped if I could. Jack Harlow’s music is catchy, and modern, and deserves its spot on my list.
The rest of my most listened-to artists aren’t too exciting; Drake comes in at third, The Weeknd at fourth, and Zach Bryan at fifth. Zach’s appearance on my Wrapped is surprising, given everyone else on my list is rap and pop-based. My most listened-to songs almost exactly match my 2022 Wrapped as I don’t like listening to new and different music. The classics are good.
