A trending topic on TikTok recently has been regarding the “invasion” of tween girls at beauty stores, specifically Sephora.
Both customers and workers are outraged over this and seem to be confused by the recent increase in teen girls shopping at Sephora.
Not only have the older generations noticed the young tweens buying makeup and skincare not suitable for their age or skin, but they have witnessed them being supposedly disrespectful by damaging the store’s products and testers.
There have been hundreds of adults all over TikTok addressing how they feel regarding this topic.
It all started when a TikTok was posted by an influencer named Chloe asking, “Has anyone else noticed that every time you go into Sephora now, it’s all just little girls?” This video has since had nearly 4.8 million views.
Many comments on this video mentioned that things have changed over time, as many viewers did not start wearing makeup until they were older. One comment said, “When I was that age, my mom gave me Elf clear brow gel and lip gloss.” Another said, “I think I started going into Sephora when I was 14.”
According to customers and Sephora employees on TikTok, many popular brands being sold to these tweens are Drunk Elephant, Rare Beauty, and Glow Recipe.
Many of these products contain chemicals such as retinol and niacinamide acid, which are popular for their anti-aging properties. These chemicals could be harmful for these young tweens and potentially damage their skin.
As a solution, some tiktokers like Stephanie Chen have proposed that Sephora create a store to cater to youth and provide “a focused and immersive beauty experience” specifically for younger girls.
