Abby Kearns (‘25) has had a very eventful high school career.
Abby is graduating in December, where she will be immediately jumping into her bright future. She intends on going to the Institute of Business and Medical Careers (IBMC) in Fort Collins where she will be practicing in dental care to become a dental assistant.
This decision to graduate early as well as go into dental school was brought to Abby in her junior year.
She said, “all my friends were always older than me [so] when they were trying to figure out what they wanted to do, and they were trying to figure [life after high school] out, I was always caught in the middle of it.”
While touring IBMC with one of her friends, she saw the sign for dental assisting and realized that was the path she wanted to follow.
Alongside Abby’s future, she’s also had some very impactful moments at Mead High School. Abby said one of her biggest accomplishments was getting an honorable mention in journalism for her piece about Resurrection Christian hockey, as well as becoming the Managing Editor for the class.
Abby also said that Ms. Baxter has had a positive impact on her high school career, because she helped her get into reading and start her love of English. Ms. Engelen has helped dig deeper into Abby’s love and understanding for literature.
Abby said, “Freshman year I didn’t know a lot about myself, and now I have a better grasp of who I am and who I want to be.”
Abby hopes to be remembered for her kindness at Mead. She said, “I hope to be remembered as someone who always cared and was easy to talk to.”
Abby has made a huge impact on her friends, her academic success, and has gone the extra mile to graduate early during her high school career.
Abby’s biggest piece of advice for students wanting to graduate early is to “go for it,” and to look into every aspect about it. “It’s all about how [far] you want to leap,” said Abby.
We wish Abby the best of luck in her journey through life!
