AP has officially called the presidential race and declared Donald Trump the winner of the 2024 election. By securing 312 electoral votes out of the 270 needed to win, he will be the United States 47th president. His inauguration is set to take place on January 20, 2025 where he will carry out his presidency with incumbent Vice President JD Vance.
Harris gave her concession speech on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, in the afternoon at Howard University. In this, she thanked her supporters and the help she had during the running season.
In that speech, she said, “I get it, but we must accept the results of this election. Earlier today, I spoke with President-elect Trump and congratulated him on his victory. I also told him that we will help him and his team with their transition.”
Donald Trump also addressed his supporters and the American people.
He said, “I want to thank the American people for the extraordinary honor of being elected your 47th president and your 45th president. And every citizen, I will fight for you, your family, and your future, every single day I will be fighting for your and with every breath in my body, I will not rest until we have delivered the strong, safe, and prosperous America that our children deserve and that you deserve”.
Trump ran on a campaign that highlighted issues on border policy, immigration, and economic concerns.
Reactions have been mixed: some say they are “ecstatic” and looking forward to the next four years while others share they are feeling upset and fearful.
