Mead High School’s current principal Dr. Young will be leaving to be St. Vrain Valley’s Executive Director at the Office of Human Resources, leaving the principal position vacant. After a period of speculation, it is confirmed that Dustin Cady will be entering the scene as Mead High’s new principal starting this coming school year.
Cady is the current principal at Manitou Springs Middle School and has 15 years of experience teaching middle and elementary school.
This will be his first time in an administrative position for a high school—a setting he has always wanted to be in. Cady cited the opportunities Mead provides for its students, and the St. Vrain Valley district as a whole, as major driving forces in his decision to take this role.
Community is huge for Cady, and he is very excited to get more involved with the students at Mead. “Something I’m really passionate about is getting students involved and helping them reach their goals,” said Cady.
Already, Cady has been working to get to know Mead better: attending various sports events, the spring musical, and more—a great sign for a present and caring leader.
It is a point for him to enter this position with an open mind—listening to student interests and concerns. This is the “learning stage” for Cady, in which he can build relations and learn about Mead and how he can support students and staff. “My goal is to support students, staff, [and] the community as a whole.”
As a student, I’m very excited for Cady to come into this role. His excitement seems very promising, and his involvement in the community, even though he isn’t principal yet, shows that he cares. Students that I have spoken to seem very excited to get to know Mr. Cady, and Mead is ready to welcome him with open arms at the start of the ‘25-‘26 school year.

So, so good. I’m glad to know a little more about the principle before the next school year starts.
