Social media posts have surfaced of a suspicious figure pacing on top of a nearby building during Charlie Kirk’s debate at Utah Valley. Later, reports identify the suspect as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, who is set to face charges of aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury, and obstruction of justice, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Tyler Robinson’s father Matt Robinson identified his son as the shooter after seeing photographs posted by the FBI. Matt initially told Tyler to turn himself in, but since Tyler was reluctant, Matt ended up turning his son in.
Police recovered a high-power, bolt-action rifle in a nearby wooded area wrapped in a towel, along with various bullet casings that had a variety of phrases. One inscription read: “Hey fascist! Catch!” Earlier, Friday morning, there was a press conference where Utah Governor Spencer Cox said that Robinson’s family stated Tyler had become more political in recent years, seemingly influencing him to turn to violence because of his personal opinions.
He was found by authorities in Washington, Utah, over four hours away from Utah Valley University, and authorities have not released where he’s being held as of now. At this moment, the situation is still being investigated, and more details should surface following further investigation.
