KPop Demon Hunters, released June 20, 2025, has taken the internet by storm. Its unique and eye-catching animation, beautiful songs, and unique story caused the fandom to practically form overnight.
The movie features pop stars who save people from getting their souls secretly taken by demons. The hunters use their songs of courage to keep the demons in their own realm, and the love of their fans creates the Honmoon. The pop star group is known as Huntrix, its members being Zoe, Mira, and Rumi.
Zoe is the maknae (the youngest) of Huntrix, along with being the rapper and lyricist. Mira is the visual and lead dancer and is known for being cool and blunt.
Rumi, known as “pop star royalty,” is the lead singer of the group. Her mother was a part of the previous generation of hunters, the Sunlight Sisters. Unfortunately, her mother died at a young age, and her mother’s friend, who was also a Sunlight Sister, raised Rumi as her own.
As the movie goes on, a secret of Rumi’s is revealed to the audience, and the viewer has to watch Rumi hide from her hidden identity from her friends and fans. But conflict arises as the demon king Gwi-ma sends a group of demon boys to form a boy band called the Saja Boys to steal Huntrix’s fans, thus damaging the Honmoon.
The leader of the Saja Boys is Jinu, a demon with a complicated past who learns about Rumi’s secret. The two meet up with each other and portray an enemies-to-lovers trope.
KPop Demon Hunters is such an amazing movie; there are small details and the characters are so beautiful, yet there are also comedic pieces put into the movie. The songs are absolutely captivating. This is shown when “Golden”, hit number one on Billboard Hot 100.
KPop Demon Hunters is, in my opinion, the animation of the year and a movie that I thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend.
