Brittany Tangora grew up in Mead, Colorado, where she attended Mead Elementary, Mead Middle, and Mead High School. Throughout her grade school years, she was active both in the classroom and on the court, playing basketball, track, and volleyball. She was also a member of the National Honor Society, balancing academics with athletics and leadership.
Looking back now, she realizes she probably would have enjoyed joining Maverick Christian Fellowship, student council, and yearbook. After graduation, Ms. Tangora continued her education at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction.
Ms. Tangora and her husband Kellen met at a wedding for two of their old friends. Both were 23 at the time, and what began as a celebration of mutual friends turned into the start of their life together.
Faith and family have always been central to Ms. Tangora’s life. Raised in a Christian household, she describes her parents as strong in their morals and beliefs. “Growing up, I was more afraid to disappoint my parents,” she says, recalling a home life she deeply valued. Now that she is a mother, she is planning on implementing the same values she grew up with in her daughter. “Raising her up in a Christian household is really important to us. Raising her to be kind is important, and those are a lot of things that my parents believed as well.”
Ms. and Mr. Tangora named their daughter Audrey Jo after a meaningful family connection. Audrey is derived from her mother’s middle name, while Jo is dedicated to Mr. Tangora’s late father Joseph, who passed away when Mr. Tangora was just 13 years old.
Ms. Tangora’s parents’ house is Audrey’s personal daycare. As a mother, Tangora hopes to build the same kind of foundation she grew up with. She wants Audrey to see her as a mother first, but also feel comfortable enough to confide in her like a friend. “I’d rather her feel okay admitting when she’s done something wrong and be comfortable coming to me,” she explains. While she loves teaching, her world just became a little bit bigger with a daughter of her own.
