After Sydney Sweeney’s controversial ad, “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans,”with American Eagle, Gap released an ad, “Better in Denim,” starring Katseye.
Gap’s previous ads tend to feature calmer songs and artists such as Troye Sivan and Tyla. This made it even more impactful to feature Katseye, as their songs are much more energetic.
“Better in Denim” has caught the attention of influencers across the board, creating a new trend. Using the song, “Milkshake” by Kelis, there have been many online dancers who dance along to the original, and “MOOO!” By Doja Cat.
TikTok users @eyeofakira, @hyper_season, @anvouec, and @kittenzeye were among the hundreds of thousands that made videos dancing along to the original audio, while users like @javachipkitty, @samaraispinkk, @marquiseaura, and @okaykeon, all dancing along to “MOOO!”
With the huge controversy of the Sydney Sweeney ad, Gap creating an ad full of people of color is believed to be a direct stab at American Eagle. The song chosen for the ad says, “Damn right, they’re better than yours,” which is also believed to be a direct poke at American Eagle’s ad.
The ad got Gap popular again because of the contrast in the lines, how the ad was created, who the ad features, and the lack of eugenics in the ad.
