A lot has happened with this United States and Venezuela feud in this last week. Of course, the biggest thing is Nicholas Maduro getting captured. There have been a few different protests around the U.S. to release him. And I am asking, why?
The United States capturing Nicholas Maduro, a dictator, is not a bad thing for anyone. He pushed himself into being the leader, even though the people of Venezuela voted in his opponent, he rigged the election. His government has used secret police, arrests, and violence to squash dissent, imprison political opponents, and silence the media. He has ruled by fiat and used the Supreme Court to sideline the democratically elected National Assembly when the opposition gained a majority in 2015. These are just some examples of the bad things that have been occurring. He’s also not good for Venezuela at all: he collapsed their economy. How do you collapse an economy of an oil-rich country? Bad leadership.
Not only is he not a good human, he is a horrible leader for the country of Venezuela. Many people reported that the Maduro regime committed arbitrary or unlawful killings. Even though the regime did not release statistics on extrajudicial killings, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) reported that national, state, and municipal police entities, as well as the armed forces and regime-supported collectives, carried out hundreds of killings during the year. Maduro is not a good human, and he needs to be punished for these actions–the U.S. is giving him his punishment. At the end of the day, someone needed to step in on this
But why is this good for the U.S.? So many are saying it isn’t good for the United States, but then they see people in Venezuela happy about their “Leader” being captured, and they don’t know what to say. So, then they say it’s all about the oil, which is a factor, but that’s not a reason to capture a country’s leader.
The United States and China’s feud dates back to the early 2000s-2010s. China is Venezuela’s biggest buyer of oil; why would we, America, willingly let Venezuela give oil to one of our nation’s biggest threats all the way across the world? So, yes, this is somewhat about oil, but its just not the whole story. Before the U.S. captured Maduro, he was letting criminals out of jail and illegally sending them into the U.S. Not sure about everyone else, but I don’t want criminals roaming freely in my country. He’s also committed crimes against our country and against his own. Should such terrible actions go unpunished?
Citizens of the U.S. that are mad about Maduro’s capture are silly. He was a bad person, a dictator, a horrible leader, and a criminal. But we also have to understand that even though some people are mad about Maduro’s capture, that is such a small majority. The majority voted his opponent Edmundo González Urrutia in, but he clearly rigged the voting system.
U.S. citizens should be behind President Trump’s choice to go in and capture Maduro. All it is doing is benefiting our country. We are taking away our biggest threats and giving the acquired oil to ourselves and other countries in need.
