Junk drawers (poem)

there’s something so incredibly remarkable about the Junk of a Drawer

there’s one bound to be found in any room in a home almost anywhere

the lengths that some go to hide it from your curious eyes will tell you just how remarkable it is,

i think they’re beautiful

as you pull out the contents, you unravel a story in each item

in each receipt

note

deck of cards

spare keys

tape measure

or any unclaimed, broken

pieces of jewelry and beads that once

belonged to a bracelet that was worn enough

to be broken

Junk Drawers are windows to ordinary memories

that are carried by extraordinary people

if you look for long enough you’ll see the brilliance in completely ordinary things

such as a junk drawer
