We moved into my current house in May 2016, but it wasn’t until May last year that I started making it my own.
Oh, well, we’re gonna move at some point, so why waste the time and energy on changing something that I’ll have to change back?
So I let months pass, staring at the barren yellow-cream walls with lime green accents, hating every second I spent in that room. Eventually, my disdain for it outgrew my patience.
I took down the hideous, most distasteful window coverings, painted the putrid walls a calming tone, and put up decorations I had saved for years. Finally, I can walk into my room and call it my room.
It’s allowed to adapt with me now—to my interests. I change which vinyls I display on my wall, move things around, put old stuff in the closet, and bring new stuff in.
Maybe you’ve been waiting to decorate your room, or waiting to do something else, for whatever reason you have, and I suggest, within reason of course, that you don’t wait! Trust me, it’s so worth it to actually enjoy being in your room, and to do something you’ve been wanting to do.
Decorate your room and phone case, draw that picture you’ve been wanting to for weeks, sew that shirt, cut those jeans, and call that friend. Do the “thing.”
Don’t wait to make something good happen, or even allow for a good thing to find you, just because the scenario isn’t “perfect” or what you imagined. You deserve to enjoy things now.
