Famous rapper Fetty Wap, best known for his hit singles, “Trap Queen,” “Again,” “My Way,” and “679,” was arrested in October 2021, on charges related to conspiracy to distribute cocaine and drug trafficking. Court filings state that between June 2019 and June 2020, Fetty Wap and the co-defendants in his case distributed more than 100 kilograms of cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl across the East Coast.
Junior Maxwell II (Fetty Wap)’s indictment was filed on September 29, 2021, and unsealed on Friday, October 22, after he was found guilty. Maxwell was charged with one count of conspiracy to distribute and possess controlled substances. His charges did not lead to sentencing until May of 2023, when he was officially sentenced to six years in prison and five years of post-release supervision.
Maxwell was able to serve less than half of that six-year sentence due to his participation in early release programs provided by the First Step Act (FSA), and is dedicated to moving forward with purpose, stating in an interview with Breakfast Club Power, “Take advantage of [the] blessings that [God] gave you.” Although the media has been buzzing about Fetty’s release, it is important to note that he has only been transferred out of federal prison to home confinement as of right now. This transfer occurred on January 7, 2026, and he is projected to be released from confinement later this year, in November.
