As the school year winds down, seniors reflect on the journey that brought them here and the next steps on the horizon. For Nicolas Casey Carrillo-Sanchez (‘26), the end of high school marks the start of a new chapter in his life.
Nico plans to attend Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado, where he will major in psychology and continue his wrestling career. Since he was little, he’s always been fascinated by the human body, especially the mind. He hopes to explore how mental and physical aspects of the human body interact.
While Northeastern is his top choice for its proximity and credits it offers, he has also considered larger programs like Nebraska and Oregon.
Beyond college, Nico sees a future where he can combine his academic knowledge and athletic discipline. Wrestling has taught him persistence and focus, which he hopes will translate into personal growth.
Reflecting on high school, Nico says his favorite memories involve the challenges that shaped him most, like returning to football in his senior year after a junior year setback as well as pushing through early struggles in wrestling. These experiences highlight the personal growth he is most proud of throughout his high school career.
Nico offers advice to underclassmen: “Seize every opportunity, appreciate the moment, and don’t rush. Be proactive and don’t hold yourself back from pursuing your goals.” He credits his father’s rational approach to life for teaching him resilience and the value of taking action in life when needed.
As he prepares to leave high school behind, Nico looks most forward to the next chapter. He’s ready to embrace both the challenges and rewards that await at Northeastern Junior College and forward.
