Alexia Deba (‘26) plans to attend Northwest Missouri State University (NW Missouri) to study Speech and Technical Education, and is looking to minor in some form of video production.
Joining Mead’s technical theatre program at the start of her time in high school, Alexia quickly rose up and became a leader in the space. She worked extremely hard, setting up choir, band, and orchestra concerts, running mics and lights in the auditorium for events, helping organize talent shows, and did even more for the annual fall play and spring musical that Mead puts on: spending countless hours preparing the show, constructing and designing sets, curating lights, mics, and so much more. She even worked at schools around the district.
Before high school, Alexia didn’t even know what technical theatre was or just how much she’d love it.
“My high school experience has completely shaped my passion and introduced career pathways I had never even considered, “ she explained. She also points to technical theatre as being a key factor in growing her confidence and experience as a whole.
Having worked alongside her for a majority of her time in technical theatre, Alexia would like to thank Ms. Baxter for allowing and pushing her to “explore deeper levels of tech,” and for helping her find her love for teaching.
To incoming and existing students, Alexia urges you to “genuinely enjoy high school.”
“If you spend the whole time wishing for it to be over, you’re going to miss something truly amazing. Take advantage of this time of your life. While it isn’t fun to wake up early all the time or go to boring classes, you can find enjoyment in the small things. It goes faster than you’d think.”
Alexia’s time in high school has been filled with kind acts, extensive hard work, and fond memories with her friends and peers in technical theatre. We know that this kindness and work ethic will continue into her career, and we cannot wait to see the magic that Alexia will make. As a personal friend, I’ve witnessed all the work and good she has produced, and the world is blessed to have her entering it.
