(ISRAEL) – Tuesday evening saw the Iranian military sending a barrage of missiles towards Israel’s major cities and towns.
This attack is in response to the Israeli military killing people in Gaza and Lebanon, as leaders and members of the Iranian backed group, Hezbollah, through the pager attacks on Tuesday, September 17, and the Beirut airstrikes on Friday, September 27.
As of now, Israeli officials are stating that only a “few” of the missiles landed in the central and southern parts of the country, with the United States stepping in to help aid their ally from what reports said to be nearly 200 projectiles from the Iranian military.
According to the Israeli emergency service, only two people have been found injured from falling shrapnel in the Tel Aviv area.
In a recent interview with Al Jazeera, Randa Slim, senior director of conflict resolution and track II dialogues program at the Middle East Institute, regarding the war, “Israel cannot engage in war against Iran without US support,” she said, with Slim expressing to the outlet that the next 24 hours will be “critical”.
“There is really this belief in the White House, shared by the president, that we are facing a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reshape the Middle East.”
Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated in a recent security cabinet meeting that “This evening, Iran made a big mistake — and it will pay for it,”
“The regime in Tehran does not understand our determination to defend ourselves and to exact a price from our enemies.”
