Savanah Bayer (‘25) plans to stay in state for her post-graduation education. She will attend Front Range Community College for two years before transferring to UNC on scholarship to major in English. She intends to get her PhD, which will most likely be through another school, depending on her options and the programs offered.
She applied to colleges throughout the state such as CSU, CU Denver, and Mesa University, and got accepted to every single one.
After her education is complete, she plans to become a college English professor. She also would like to write books on the side of her career. “I love writing, and I would love to be an author.”
Savanah reflects on her past high school years, stating that despite the rough first two years she came back stronger and more appreciative. “I think those years were necessary for me to grow as a person. I learned more about myself and the kind of person I want to be. All of that has made me the happiest, best version of myself now.”
One of Savanah’s biggest accomplishments is being a part of Journalism for four years straight. Junior and senior year she stepped up, joining the editorial board as a content editor. Journalism has always been a community she’s belonged to and a place to express her passions. This enthusiasm has been acknowledged in an All-Colorado 2023 award she won for her in-depth news coverage.
Along with being involved in journalism, Savanah participated in various clubs such as Latnix and Interact club.
Savanah says that senior year is different from her past years, as it is more fun. “It’s so much fun because you don’t take things too seriously. I still try in school, but I’ve learned to have more fun with it. I make sure to set time for my friends, and that has made it so much more enjoyable.” Not only is she more confident, but she also enjoys her busy schedule balanced with productivity and friends.
Ms. Sonnenberg is one of the many teachers who had a positive impact on Savanah during high school. “She’s such a sweetheart. I feel like her classes are very vigorous, but they have taught me a lot. I’ve learned the most from those classes.”
If Savanah could give her freshman self advice, she would say something along the lines of grades. “I didn’t realize how important high school was. I just took [tons] of fun classes that weren’t very useful for me. So I would say, do good in school, and get your gym credits [before it’s too late].”
I am excited to see what amazing things Savanah will go on to do through college and the rest of her life!
