If you’ve been alive and on the internet at least once in the last two years, you know that there has been an extremely legitimate debate over chicken sandwiches. 

Avid fast food lovers are trying to answer a very crucial and life altering question: which chicken sandwich is the best?

There are always the same two frontrunners for everyone’s rankings: the classic Chick-Fil-A chicken sandwich and the classic Popeyes chicken sandwich.

There are other fast food chain restaurants that make a decent chicken sandwich. Some include McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC), and many others, but almost everyone that’s had the Chick-Fil-A sandwich and Popeyes sandwich agree these two reign far more superior.

Chicken connoisseurs can’t even decide which sandwich is better because both of them are clearly A-tier chicken sandwiches.

But it is time I settle this ongoing debate that has been dividing our society and tortuously tearing us apart as we question the reigning monarch of all chicken sandwiches.

Our first contender is Chick-Fil-A, which boldly claims to be the “home of the Original Chicken Sandwich”. Today is the day we find out if that claim is worth upholding. Chick-Fil-A was established in Atlanta, Georgia and they have been integrating mouth-watering chicken into their meals since 1946. I have to be honest — I love the Chick-Fil-A Chicken Sandwich. It has fantastic, juicy fried chicken. And with the pickles and the beautifully toasted, buttered bun, it’s even better.

I completely understand why people stay steadfast in their opinion that Chick-Fil-A has the best chicken sandwich known to man because it’s just that good. I personally call it the “sandwich of the heavens” because it tastes like pure heaven, and Chick-Fil-A is known to be a Christian-supporting company that closes its business every Sunday, so it works out.

The Chick-Fil-A sandwich is chef’s kiss, but there are other arguments that Chick-Fil-A doesn’t have the best fast food chicken sandwich. Another piece of crispy chicken between two buttered, sliced buns that can compete is the sandwich from Popeyes.

No one can deny that Popeyes has a solidly seasoned, incredibly good chicken sandwich. No one.

Popeyes has been in business since 1972 and they originated from the city of New Orleans, Louisiana. Being from New Oreleans, Popeyes is known for their Cajun seasoning on their chicken. This sandwich is something special.

As of a few years ago, Popeyes actually didn’t even have a chicken sandwich, which is why it’s so impressive that they could perfect their recipe in such a limited amount of time. Back then, the best chicken sandwich was obviously Chick-Fil-A’s, but Popeyes entering the game most definitely makes the debate way more difficult.

This sandwich is on a brioche bun with mayonnaise spread across the bottom of the top slice. Add the pickles and you have yourself a masterpiece of a chicken sandwich. Oh, and the tasty piece of chicken of course. 

The seasoning on the chicken is iconic, I tell you. Completely and utterly iconic… See what I did there? Utterly, a Chick-Fil-A reference? No, just me? Okay.

This is more than just a sandwich debate if you ask me. It’s a battle of buttered buns, a fight of fried chicken, a sparring between seasonings.

It is really hard to choose a victor for this important argument.

If we are talking about the best service, I have to give it to Chick-Fil-A. They have their lines down to a science, the employees don’t know how to say anything other than “my pleasure”, and their food is some of the best in the game. No doubt.

But the moment you all have been waiting for is finally here. I, a self-proclaimed chicken sandwich expert, will be crowning the champion — who has the best chicken sandwich? It’s been a wild ride, and these sandwiches are both great, but to me, there is a clear winner. 

It’s Popeyes. I said it, it’s Popeyes.

Popeyes just does everything correctly when it comes to a chicken sandwich. They have the crunchy pickles and the incredible mayo and the seasoning that’s out of this world. Chick-Fil-A is great, but I just think their sandwich lacking mayo is the biggest issue. Other than that, these two sandwiches are tied, hands down. And I know everyone is thinking I could just put mayonnaise on my own Chick-Fil-A sandwich, but that’s a lot of work guys.

Popeyes is just too good to beat, and quite honestly, I don’t think anything can beat the Popeyes chicken sandwich. Don’t challenge me because Popeyes will win.

Remember everyone, this is simply what I believe to be the best chicken sandwich on the planet. So basically, it is the best chicken sandwich on the planet.

On a darker note though, I’m pretty sure I know what World War III is going to be over. People really do get that heated over chicken sandwiches.
