Longmont High School was contacted by Skyline High School’s student resource officer (SRO) on Thursday, October 23rd, 2025, around 11:30 a.m., with news, and it was disclosed that a firearm had been sold to a student at Longmont High School.
At 1:25 p.m., the Longmont High SRO located the student in question. After a pat-down search was conducted, a Sig Sauer 9mm handgun was recovered.
The Longmont student has been taken to a Juvenile Assessment Center in Boulder, and the Skyline student is under investigation.
There were no threats reported, the firearm was found unloaded, and the student had no ammunition.
Parents of students were emailed with the following,

The threat happening at a school in the same district has raised concerns for some people at Mead High School (MHS). Luckily, MHS works closely with the Mead Police Department for our SRO program, and therefore keeps potential dangers mostly away with an armed police officer.
Mr. Alain Valette, assistant principal and administrator over safety for the building, said, “If we get any type of information about any type of threat, we drop everything and investigate.”
Schools remain in contact with one another to protect students. It is not uncommon for MHS, as well as other St. Vrain Valley School District schools, to communicate with each other about threats they hear made against other schools.
Mr. Valette added, “There was one time I got a call from another assistant principal… where they got wind of something that would possibly affect Mead.”
There has been quite a few times where threats have been made aware through Safe2Tell. The program Safe2Tell has been around since 2004, and is an anonymous way to share information with school and district officials. Safe2Tell was created to prevent violence, keep schools as safe as possible, and confront issues early on.
Report all potential violence to Safe2Tell, while you might not be able to see the outcome of your report, you will stay completely anonymous, and you’ll be keeping yourself and others safe.
