Ms. Harris is a new teacher this year who teaches Spanish 1 and Spanish for Spanish speakers. Ms. Harris moved to Mead High School after teaching at Platte Valley High School for eight years and at Mountain View for another eight before that.
Ms. Harris shared that her love and passion for teaching started at a very young age. She would teach her stuffed animals as a kid and even had a chalkboard put up in her house.
“I always wanted to be a teacher, I just never knew what I wanted to teach.”
Although she did admit she isn’t interested at the moment to switch professions, she thought being a realtor or an esthetician would also be cool jobs.
Ms. Harris didn’t grow up speaking Spanish; she started speaking it in high school and was really good as it came naturally to her. She continued to learn the language in college and “started to fall in love with Spanish and, even more, wanting to be able to teach it to other people.”
Moving from Michigan to Colorado at 12 years old, Ms. Harris stayed ever since attending CSU for college and continued her profession at Northern Colorado until now. She still travels to Michigan every summer because her family lives there, and she likes the lake life the state has to offer.
Ms. Harris spends her free time with her family. She has an eight-year-old and a five-year-old who take up most of her time, but she tries to have date nights with her husband. She is close with her mom, dad, and brother, and spends time skiing with her sister in law. That’s not all, Ms. Harris enjoys reading a good book, biking, rollerblading, and traveling.
On top of all that, she has a huge wardrobe, where she has her own closet and has to rotate her clothes per season to fit them all.
Mead is so blessed to have Ms. Harris, who is such a passionate Spanish teacher, and someone who’s been practicing their skills since they were little.
