Mead varsity softball is off to a great start in the 2020 season. The Mavericks are 7-0 and were voted to No. 1 team in Class 4A by various coaches in the state.

17 coaches in total voted for the top teams through CHSAA.

“Out of those 17 coaches, Mead has been ranked as the top team” said Athletic Director Chad Eisentrager.

The team started with an away game against Elizabeth High School and won with a 14-4 score.

In the next week, Mead pulled off their first win against Erie High School in school history, beating them 12-4.

Before each game, the girls have to mentally prepare themselves to play. Katelyn Wiescamp (‘23) said she needs to clear her mind in order to play fresh.

Head coach, Amanda Macaluso, has led her 12 girls to success.

“We tasted victory last year… We’ve got nowhere to go but up,” she said.

This year’s team is certainly something to be proud of.

Tayler Brown (‘21) said, “The girls on this team… our energy [is] top notch. Our chemistry is unmatched. [It’s] such a great group of girls.”

Coach Macaluso also added, “This is probably the most hard-working group of girls that we’ve.”
