The final home game for this football season has already arrived. The Mavericks faced the Northridge Grizzlies and came out with a 48-0 victory. It’s the fourth shutout of the season, which is the most in school history. The offense has its best performances of the season, putting up 558 total. However, the game did not start in the Mavs’ favor.
Northridge started the game with a sneaky onside kick and was able to recover, giving them a good field position to start the game. The defense was able to recover from the unexpected start and for a three-and-out on their first possession. The offense would start its first possession from its own five.
The offense got to work and went on a long, methodical drive. Cooper Modrzejewski (‘28) finished the drive with a 24-yard touchdown run. The defense would take the field once again. This drive ended in an interception for Brycen Gissel (‘26) on an underthrown comeback route.
The offense took full advantage of the field position as Carter Woods (‘26) would rush for his first touchdown of the night. After the next defensive stand, the offense continued its dominance. Joe Klatt (‘28) was able to find Eli Davis (‘26) for a 53-yard touchdown. It is the eighth touchdown of the year for Davis.
The second quarter was no different for either side of the ball. A stop on defense allowed the offense to take over on their own three-yard line. This drive would end with a Noah Chapala (‘27) 29-yard touchdown scamper. This wasn’t the last time the Mavericks would go on a 90+ yard touchdown drive.
On the last offensive drive of the half, Modrzejeqski would pull the ball on a read play and take it 85 yards for a touchdown. That run would make it 35-0 before the half.
Halftime did not stop the Mavericks either. The defense forced a three-and-out, which led to another offensive score. The offense would chip their way down the field to set up Carter Woods’ second touchdown of the night. The scoreboard read 42-0, which meant running clock.
The running clock meant nothing to the Mavericks. The defense was able to force a punt, and the offense would take over to start the fourth quarter. On the first play, Klatt connected with Brennan Stapp (‘28) to stretch the lead to 48.
Another three-and-out allowed the offense to sit on the ball and run the clock to zero. The Mavericks were now 7-1. The big nights for the offense allowed multiple players to jump onto the leaderboard for stats. Chapala is now sixth in 3A and 855 rushing yards, and Davis is 10th in receiving yards with 465. The tandem of Josh Gonsalves (‘26) and Woods is both of the top five in tackles. Woods is third with 91, and Gonsalves is fifth with 82. The Mavericks are now second in 3A with two regular season games remaining.
