This coming week is Make-a-Wish week. This annual week is packed full of fundraisers that Mead high and the surrounding community can participate in.

Each year, a child in the Make-a-Wish program is selected for MHS to support. This year Mead High will get to make eight-year-old Zaidee’s wish come true. Zaidee received a liver transplant seven years ago; she has a rare liver disease.

Her wish is to go to the Aulani Resort at Disney to meet her favorite character, Moana. Mead’s goal is to raise 15,000 towards Zaidee’s Disney dreams.

Throughout this week there will be several activities to raise money throughout the school.

A game called “Hot Potato” will be taking place during the entire week. Every A2 class in G hall, D hall, and E hall will have to raise 20 dollars in their rooms to have the box — or the “hot potato” — moved to the next classroom down the hall. The A2 classes who still have their boxes by the end of the week, will lose and that teacher gets to choose a student to get pied in the face at the assembly on Friday.

The office will also have five boxes where students can vote –with money — to have a teacher pied at the school wide assembly Friday.

There is no school on Monday; however, there is a restaurant fundraiser at Jersey Mikes (the Firestone location). After five o’clock, 25 percent of the funds will go towards Zaidee’s trip when you inform the cashier you’re there for the fundraiser.

Tuesday’s Spirit Day is safari themed. If students and families did not have a chance to stop by Jersey Mike’s the evening before, the fundraiser continues into Tuesday with the same guidelines stated above.

“Super Fan” is Wednesday’s spirit theme; students are asked to dress decked out supporting their favorite artist, book, movie, food, or more — essentially, anything students love.  That night, Red Robin in Longmont will be donating 20 percent of the earnings to Make-a-Wish all day so long as students and families mention the fundraiser.

On Thursday students will dress out in their favorite sun or snow clothes — all outfits must follow school dress code. From 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., students can make their way to Qdoba (in Firestone) to contribute.

On Friday students and staff are asked to wear their Make-a-Wish shirts, which can be purchased for 15 dollars during both lunches all week long. Crumble cookies will be on sale at 6 p.m. at the basketball home game that night as well. The theme is Make-a-Wish — once again, students and families can wear their Make-a-Wish shirts that night to show support.

Lastly, Student Council is hosting a Fun Run on Saturday from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Entry costs 35 dollars for adults, and 25 dollars for anyone under 18 — all proceeds go to Zaidee and supporting the Make-a-Wish cause.
